Our guest DJ this week is one of the rising talents of our city’s bustling electronic music scene and good personal friend, Zak B.
Zak B. got his start on local radio. Since then, he has played at clubs, festivals, venues, and corporate events. His energetic yet laid-back approach allows him to give every genre of dance music his own spin.
He has been one of the most active DJ’s on the scene working every weekend at re-establishing our nightlife to a post-COVID normal. You can see him in action every weekend at Giovanni’s on Preston Street or hosting new Wednesday night parties in the Market at 27 Club, among the many venues and parties at which he plays.
He also currently serves on the board of directors for CKCU-FM. He is an Admin for the largest music discussion group on Facebook, as well as Moderator for the largest DJ discussion group on Facebook; as such Zak is able to analyze current music trends from a unique perspective.
It was high time to host him on Ottawa Prog Vibes and here he is. For his guest mix, he delivers one of his signature dancefloor sessions, oozing with raw energy, skillful mixing, and his very personal flavour of enthralling dark, dirty and groovy tracks which drag you right out to dance.

We are thrilled to introduce our next guest DJ, none other than New Zealand’s @dj-donna-marie.
Donna-Marie A.K.A Donna Birt started DJing back in 2001, where she heavily featured on the London party circuit, playing at all the major venues in London. She could be found regularly playing at the likes of Brixton Academy, Camden Palace (now KOKO), The Fridge, Shepherds Bush Empire, Turnmills, Egg London, Scala and Ministry of Sound. She also toured internationally throughout South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and the US where she earned a reputation for her style of chunky, groovy and driving techy vibes.
Since returning home to NZ, her sound has refined and matured to what you hear today, a sound well-known to Ottawa Prog Vibes listeners for all her tracks we’ve featured in several episodes
Donna-Marie opts for moody yet uplifting melodic melodies with techy bass lines, and is influenced by the likes of Maceo Plex, Stan Kolev, D-Nox, HOSH, Tinlicker, Nanoplex, blaktone, Grum, Ann Clue and Boris Brejcha to name a few. She plays Progressive House, Melodic Techno, Minimal Techno and Main Room Techno. She recently closed the main stage on the first night at NZ's very own AUM Festival 2020.
As a producer, Donna-Marie has released a number of Beatport Top 100 Progressive House tunes over the past year incl tracks on Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto Black, Manual Music & Freegrant Music to name a few. She tells us that she has a few more about to come out and we can’t wait!
This is her first Canadian appearance and we are proud to feature her on Ottawa Prog Vibes

We are thrilled to return to Argentina for our next guest, Rocío Portillo, a DJ, journalist and producer from the beautiful city of Mendoza.
Her passion for music was awakened at a very young age, having grown up in an extended family of artists. Through the influence of various styles of music, she learned to express herself with various instruments and by singing. Her love for electronic music grew when she started attending festivals and clubs at the age of 17. As she supported the electronic scene locally, nationally and internationally, she delved into the world of DJ’ing and production.
Rocío’s sound revolves around progressive house, deep house and techno, always with a big melodic imprint and always with a strong sense of groove. Her influences are DJ’s like Hernan Cattaneo, Sasha, Nick Warren, John Digweed and Lee Burridge, among others.
Her career has taken her to play gigs in various clubs, sharing decks with several DJ’s and producers from Mendoza and providing warm-up sets for big artists like Danny Howells and Emi Galvan.
During the COVID lockdowns, she was part of several high-profile streams alongside notable artists like Alex Orion, Kamilo Sanclemente, Dabeat, Emi Galvan, Julian Nates, Anton Make and Alejo Gonzalez. The COVID confinement was at the root of the Orígenes Festival and other events put on by Prod Community, which staged several national DJ’s and producers.
Rocío has been active on podcasts and radio shows, issuing monthly sets for over two years on Sonido Selecto 102.9 FM La Plata and on Nube Music Radio. She was one of the few selected by Desert In Me’s National DJ Contest, whose jury includes Nick Warren, Interaxxis and Nicolas Rada. In terms of musical production she recently received support from Hernan Cattaneo (Resident 504) for her latest release on Nube Music.
She is a cultural reporter, working for the Grupo America Multimedia’s Radio Nihuil 98.9 and forms part of the Pulso Beat program, broadcast by Radio Botellón, which is entirely devoted to electronic music.

Gerardo Duran is one of Mexico’s main names in progressive. From an early age, his musical tastes made him interested in different kinds of rhythms. Electronic music ended up becoming his mainstay in 1995. From 2000 onward he started playing more seriously in raves and private events, building his sets with musical lines along the progressive-house, deep & dark progressive, melodic & harmonic ranges.
As his career advanced, he played and collaborated with hundreds of artists including Daniel Camarillo, Stan Kolev, Stage van H, Monojoke, Katzen, Cream, Ewan Rill, Rick Pier O'Neil, Amber Long, Prya Sen, NAHS, Weird Sounding Dude, Bruno Andrada, NOIYSE PROJECT, Paul Sawyer, Gux Jimenez, Simos Tagias and many more.
Gerardo’s sets are heard internationally on a number of radio stations and shows including Germany’s TM Radio (since 2014) and Cosmos Radio; Turkey’s Loops Radio; and Argentina’s By Ground Digital. He has been a guest on the renowned Proton Radio and on various radio shows in Russia, Sri Lanka, India, Argentina and of course all across Mexico.
This is his first Canadian appearance and we are thrilled to welcome him on Mellow Prog Vibes for this exclusive session.

Paul first started to DJ in 1990. He experienced the early dance culture and movement which developed into the music scene of today. He had the pleasure of working and playing alongside some of the biggest names in the game, including Carl Cox, Timo Maas, Shades of Rhythm, K Klass, Hybrid, Nick Warren to name a few... For that decade, he was resident at the two most prominent southwest clubs, The Warehouse and The Academy, which welcomed all the world-renowned DJ’s of the time, along with travelling the length and breadth of the UK guesting at various nights. He also promoted his own nights in the Plymouth area along with working with record labels including Urban Collective.
Taking a break from the music scene to concentrate on his new family and career, Paul moved away from the music thing for a while, then a few years ago, contact with a local influential figure, Loukas pour Hashemi, got Paul back into the music which led to the inception of the Melodic Beats podcast. Paul wanted an outlet for the music he loved and the podcast seemed like the sensible and most viable option...  
Following the birth of Melodic Beats Podcast, Paul enlisted the help of Tim French and Apostille who shared his passion for the music. Shortly after realising the want and will to progress the Melodic Beats Music brand, Paul formed Melodic Beats Recordings to put out the music he was passionate about, but also as a platform for Tim, Apostille and himself. This then quickly grew as an outlet for artists to get their music heard, and now an outlet for established Artists.
The missing piece was putting on events, which was something Paul knew well, so Melodic Beats Events was born. Even with the world turning upside down in 2020, their first event, hosting Anjunadeep’s Jody Wisternoff, was a sell out and now 2021 is well and truly getting planned out.
To date, Melodic Beats Music has grown to a level which has surpassed expectations and support from some influential figures in today’s industry has been humbling. The love and passion for all new music of things deep, melodic and progressive has been fully re-ignited!!!!

The global electronic scene has generated a generation of artists with identity, and Alex Efe is among those as a DJ / Producer in constant growth and global recognition.
His musical influences are in rock, synth pop and new wave, which come through in his characteristic sound. In each session, he transmits his experience and musical knowledge. His eclectic and versatile style allows him to venture into different soundscapes, with the freedom of not being framed in a unique style, one of his main attributes as a DJ.

His tracks and remixes have the support of important references such as Hernán Cattaneo, Sahar Z, Emi Galvan, Cream, Ricky Ryan, Nishan Lee, Baunder, Mariano Mellino, Darin Epsilon, Simply City, Nick Warren, Ezequiel Arias, Aluria, Marcelo Vasami, Fernando Goraieb, Lucas Rossi, Christ Malvin, among others.
He’s had the opportunity to appear in various countries in his region, with great expectations of travelling around the planet. He is currently on the FP Beats Agency Artist roster alongside artists such as Analog Jungs, Norman H, Gustin, Juan Pablo Torrez, Ewan Rill, Nishan Lee, Cream.
In his country, he is considered one of the main exponents of the Progressive House genre, participating in the main clubs and festivals. He is co-owner with his friend and colleague Diego Berrondo of Clubbing MVD & Progressive House Uruguay, and teacher at Kultur Music Academy.
